When I started the Christmas countdown series, I had one post in mind pretty much immediately. The Weeping Angel. Only the image was not yet done. Not a big problem, though since the site is close to my home. During an afternoon walk through Stuttgart’s Pragfriedhof – the third largest cemetery of Stuttgart – the image was taken. Open for nearly 140 years, it contains the only crematorium in Stuttgart.
Not that I am a big fan of cemeteries, crypts and that kind, but it was fascinating to what lengths families went to honor their lost ones.
Theaterwelt
Eine Chance einen etwas ruhigeren Auftritt zu fotografieren, ergab sich Anfang Oktober. Özcan Cosar ist Stand-Up Comedian und brachte seine Show in seine Heimatstadt. Etwas ungewohnt für mich eine Theaterbühne zu fotografieren, aber Spaß hat es massenweise gemacht! Ein paar Ergebnisse.
Stand-up Comedian Özcan Cosar did a show in Stuttgart at the beginning of October. And lucky me, I got the chance to shoot during a more quiet stage act than the ordinary rock music show. A first for me, I had to deal with a theater stage, but it was a blast. Enjoy some of the pictures.

Way to Bodhi and Torche @ Zwölfzehn
Gut ein Monat vorher gewannen Way to Bodhi an gleicher Stelle den Bandinferno Songcontest. An gleicher Stelle sollten sie das Zwölfzehn nocheinmal zum beben bringen. Als Support für Torche aus Florida durfte die Band ihr Material im vollgepackten Laden präsentieren bis die Stoner-Rocker aus den USA den Laden komplett auseinandernahmen.

A small sign of life
Ein kleines Lebenszeichen von mir. Momentan ist es schwer, Zeit und die Möglichkeit zu finden, Bilder zu bloggen. Zum einen technische als auch zeitliche Themen verhindern es recht zuverlässig. Aber, in ein paar Wochen ist das überstanden und es gibt neues Material, versprochen! Bis dahin, zwei Bilder der letzten Wochen um die Zeit zu überbrücken. Industrial Light – Magic
Der Cannstatter Wasen ist der Platz, an dem zweimal im Jahr Volksfeste in Stuttgart stattfinden. Im Stadtbezirk Bad Cannstatt gelegen findet hier Ende September das ‘Cannstatter Volksfest’ statt. Im April bis Mai jedes Jahr das ‘Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest’. Umgangssprachlich haben beide Feste jedoch den gleichen Namen wie der Ort an dem sie stattfinden und so finden sich Stuttgarter und Nicht-Stuttgarter zweimal zur Wasenzeit zusammen.
Was beiden Festen jedoch gleich ist, sind die Attraktionen. Die Festzelte sind groß, das Bier fließt in Massen und die Musik ist laut. Und wer will, kann sich auch die einen oder anderen Stände oder Fahrgeschäfte antun, die teilweise seit über dreißig Jahren auf dem Wasen zu finden sind.
Wenn man sich nicht vor Angetrunkenen fürchtet, kann man gerade Nachts spektakuläre Bilder einfangen. Eine kleine Auswahl aus dem Frühlingsfest diesen Jahres.
Twice a year, Stuttgart borough ‘Bad Cannstatt’ is visited for a huge beer festival. In April and Mai, its official name is Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest (Stuttgart Spring Festival), while it is ‘Cannstatter Volksfest’ (Cannstatt folk-fair)-time late in September. Each time, the area is filled with locals and tourists who enjoy beer in huge tents and loud music.
An alternative are booths selling lottery tickets, offering games, sweets and other stuff and the one or the other rollercoaster ride.
As long as you are not frightened of drunk guys jumping in front of your camera, there are some spectacular views possible with all the lights in the dark. A little selection of this years Spring version of the ‘Cannstatter Wasen’.
Arbeitswochenende
Was für ein Wochenende! Während manche einer sich von der Arbeit erholen mag, packe ich meinen Rucksack voll mit Kamera und Ausrüstung und schieße für mich, für Freunde und neue Bekannte.
What a weekend! While the ‘ordinary man’ might relax and enjoy their free time, I have used the two days for shootings. Geared up with the whole equipment, I shot for old and somewhat new Friends. And of course for myself, too.

Way to Bodhi hatte einen spontanen Gig im ‘Insider’s’ Rock Pub, etwa eine halbe Stunde aus Stuttgart raus in etwas, was manch einer auch als Wohnzimmer bezeichnen könnte. Die Show war trotzdem große Klasse und wer mutig genug war, die Lautstärke auszuhalten hatte sehr viel Spaß am Konzert.
Way to Bodhi organised a gig on very short notice in Hochdorf’s ‘Insider’s’. What some people would consider the size of a living room was the stage of a rock pub half an hour outside of Stuttgart. All those who did not flee because of the loud music had a blast there.

Sonntag wurde dann etwas ruhiger. So etwas wie ein Auftrag gab es. Die Skater, für die ich auch während der WM Ende des Monats in Stuttgart Photograph sein werde (siehe die Bilder hier), hatten ihr zweites Conejudges Training. Eine Herausforderung bei ständigen Schauern. Dennoch sind einige gute Bilder dabei rausgesprungen.
Sunday was a day to relax for me, too. Well, almost. The group of skaters (see the other post here) had their second conejudges training in the afternoon and I had another go at learning to shoot at high speed. Slowly but surely, I get quite confident for the world championships at the end of the month in Stuttgart.

Zum Abschluss, ein bischen Seeluft in Deutschlands Südwesten. Der Hamburger Fischmarkt hatte seinen letzten Tag. Und so ganz verpassen wollte ich das dann doch nicht. Ein paar Eindrücke.
The end of the weekend got a bit maritime. Hamburg’s Fishmarket transported their stands and Sellers and Traders to the southwest and invited everyone in for quite some time. A few impressions.

Fünf Bands in knapp sechs Stunden. Fünf Musikrichtungen und eine Menge Spaß. Das war der Auftakttag des zweitägigen Sunnyside Up Festival in Dettenheim bei Karlsruhe. Doch knapp 2500 Bilder müssen erstmal verarbeitet werden. Solange ein erstes Bild von Way to Bodhi, die ebenfalls dort aufgetreten sind.

Five bands who were on stage within six hours. Five different ways to play music with guitars and other instruments. And a lot of fun for everyone! The first of the two days of the Sunnyside Up Festival close to Karlsruhe was amazing. However, it means a bit of work now, too since 2500 Shots are not going to process themselves, I am afraid. Until there is more to see, a first impression of Stuttgart’s Ambassadors Way to Bodhi.

Was ich ganz besonders an Nachtfotografie mag? Das Spielen mit künstlichem Licht. Die Änderung von Formen durch Bewegung. So werden aus Punkte, Linien oder Elipsen. Und so wird aus einem statischen, normalen Riesenrad, eine Scheibe voller leuchtender Ringe.

There is one part, I especially like about shooting pictures at night. I love to play with the artifical light available. To change forms through movement. Lightpoints turn into lines or even ellipses. An ordinary Ferris wheel turns into a disc or illuminated rings.
